The Wentworth sits right on the edge of the beautiful Suffolk coast, looking out over Aldeburgh Beach. Since 1920, it has been run by the Pritt family and Michael Pritt, third generation and present owner, has managed to modernise without spoiling the special country house atmosphere. Log fires, antique furniture and signed Russell Flint prints all contribute to the Wentworth`s unique character.

Original touches abound. Each bedroom has a copy of Orlando The Marmalade Cat, a much-loved children`s story set in Owlbarrow (Aldeburgh). Some rooms are also provided with binoculars to give an even better view of the sea.

Food at the Wentworth is a blend of traditional English and French with the emphasis on local produce. Fresh from Aldeburgh Beach come lobsters, crabs and the famous Aldeburgh sprats - a traditional dish at the Lord Mayor`s Banquet in London. The wine list is compiled by Adnams of Southwold, `Wine Merchants of the Year` in 1991, 1992, and 1994.

The hotel has strong links with Aldeburgh Music Festival, founded by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, and is a meeting place for performers and concert-goers. Among those who have stayed at the Wentworth are Lord Laurence Olivier, Julian Bream, Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Kathleen Ferrier. DetailsRatings/Awards:AA 3 Star 76%
