The ancient Mackenzies of Coul picked a wonderful situation for this secluded country mansion. The hotel`s emphasis is on personal service and high standards, both of food and accommodation. The ancient Mackenzies of Coul picked a wonderful situation for this secluded country mansion, with magnificent, uninterrupted views over forest and mountain.
For over 23 years, it has been home to Martyn and Ann Hill, whose warm highland welcome is only matched by that of `Hamish`, their lovable Labrador, and the Summer evening piper.
The hotel`s emphasis is on personal service and high standards, both of food and accommodation.
The 3 lounges are elegant and all have log fires. The bedrooms are individually designed and decorated, and all are exceptionally well equipped (even down to an iron for the ladies` dresses).
The candlelit restaurant is appointed for `Taste of Scotland` cooking, personally supervised by Karl Taylor, head chef, who has been at Coul House for many years.
Usually on offer are fish and seafoods, succulent roasts, steaks, fresh salmon and venison and many home cured or smoked specialities.
There is also the new `Tartan Bistro`, which offers a more relaxed and informal venue with innovative modern Scottish cooking and just a hint of the `Auld Alliance`.
The wine list is superb and there`s also the malts in Mackenzie`s Cocktail Bar and the locals in the Kitchen Bar, which also serves traditional pub fayre. |
