Hidden away in Leg Square in a quiet select corner of the ancient market town of Shepton Mallet is an obvious favourite with people. Locals still referring to it as The Dusthole from its early days when quarry and prison flourmill workers frequented it. 30 minutes from Bath and Bristol, 4 miles from the Cathedral city of Wells and 3 miles from the Bath and West Country showground. Surrounded by the glorious Somerset countryside and within walking distance of the Fosse Way it is proud to be a small original country inn. Built in 1660 as a provisions house for the local prison much of the inn is still original and is constantly undergoing improvement whilst keeping its character. Real log fires are everywhere in winter, cosy corners and surprises in every room. The food menu in the bar, restaurant and newly refurbished carvery is extensive and of a high quality with an impressive range of in house prepared Far Eastern specialities Outdoor dining patio. Wine Bar (Friday night only) |
