The whitewashed stone building has stood in Bongate, the oldest part of Appleby-in-Westmorland for over 300 years, always providing sustenance for the weary traveller - a true coaching inn with history. The area is a paradise for walkers and with so much variety it is difficult to choose where to go, but be assured that when you return from a hard day out, there is a warm and relaxing welcome awaiting you. If you are walking the Pennine way we can help you be transferred to and from Dufton. Enjoy the taproom with its local memorabilia and the kind of atmosphere you thought long dead in a pub or the comfortable lounge bear where you can linger over a drink or a meal or both. Or if you prefer there is the restaurant for that special occasion, treat or romantic meal.
