Paul Whittome and The Hoste Arms are perfectly matched: neither started life with any intention of being part of the licensed trade. The building had previously been employed as a court house, livestock market, art gallery and brothel before finding a use that was much more `inn keeping`.

Paul had ploughed a fruitful furrow as a potato merchant. As soon as he saw The Hoste Arms, it was love at first sight: cashing his chips in, he bought it.

Paul1s only previous experience of working in licensed premises had been as a bouncer in a Chinese shanty pub in Western Australia, so having to welcome customers was an entirely new experience. He toured Britain1s best inns to find out why they were doing so well and was energised by what he saw. Paul1s efforts at The Hoste Arms have added to the already considerable magnetism of the north Norfolk coast, and its bedrooms and bar have never been so busy...as an inn…
