Porlock Vale House is set in a position that could hardly be bettered. Fringed by the sea, secluded and sheltered away from the moorland winds.

There is almost a sense that time has passed us by and a feeling of peace and tranquillity as you look out across the lawns and paddocks that run down to the sea.

The sitting rooms and dining room open on to the terrace where you can sit and listen to the sound of the sea and enjoy the unspoilt, spectacular views across Porlock Bay to Hurlstone Point to the coast of Wales beyond.

In the colder months you can retreat indoors and curl up in front of a roaring log fire with a good book and relax after a day spent in the great outdoors or enjoy a drink in the cosy oak panelled bar.

Enjoy good food prepared in traditional style with all the flavours of Somerset and Devon`s, coast and country. Pheasant and game dishes for those with a hearty appetite, but there is something for everyone and always imaginative vegetarian options.

All the bedrooms are traditionally furnished with antiques and fabrics in keeping with the style of the house. They are all quiet and peaceful and have lovely views of the grounds, the wooded combe or the sea. DetailsPrice per PersonDouble:From £45
