When Gerald Milsom stopped at a half timbered tearoom in Dedham in 1952, his life was at a low ebb: he had been rejected by the medical profession and demobilised from national service in the Army. The tea must have been good
because he bought the tearoom.
50 years later, Le Talbooth restaurant is renowned for its culinary excellence and if you imbibe too many glasses of the delicious South African wines that Gerald and his son Paul import, you can sleep it off at the nearby Maison Talbooth. Alternatively, now that their new inn Omilsoms1 has
opened, you can stay even longer and drink even more.
Paul is a fanatical surfer so nobody will be surprised to learn that the Milsoms are making waves in nearby Harwich. They have turned the quay and opened the door of a first class inn called The Pier, a wonderful plaice to recuperate body and sole. Actually, we have his wife Geraldine to thank for
many of The Pier1s refinements. She had designs on Paul and the interiors of The Pier and happily triumphed on both counts. If The Pier sounds too good to be true, there is a catch - you can enjoy it daily fresh from the trawler.
