As James Dugdale, the present Lord Crathorne who occupied the Hall until 1977 says, `This is an ideal use for the house, which was designed for family entertaining`. Entertaining in the grand style is what Crathorne Hall does best, offering a taste of authentic Edwardian splendour amid the austere beauty of North Yorkshire.
From the magnificent lobby and quietly sumptuous drawing room to the thirty seven spacious bedrooms and suites, Crathorne Hall exudes the comfort and style of the quintessential English country residence. All traces of stuffiness, however, have been carefully removed: each bedroom is named after a local village or city, and the ducks and whales enhance the enjoyment of bathtime. As is only proper to a great house, food and wine form a central part of life at Crathorne. Award-winning chefs are among the fixtures and fittings, and the wine list is a lasting tribute to Jeff the butler, who came to help out for a month in the 30`s and stayed for 50 years. The restaurant looks out over the Vale of Leven, with a roaring fire in winter large enough to roast an ox (though rarely used for this purpose). More `away from it all` than `out of the way`, Crathorne lends itself ideally to corporate events, weddings, and other private and public functions.
